This week has been very busy for us, and for poor little Ella Mae. She has begun teething in full force and she is grumpy, grumpy, grumpy! She is also 4 months old which means she is going to be testing the limits. She thinks that we should hold her every second and i can tell you right now that is not going to happen! We have decided to begin weaning her off of the swaddle, which has brought us many wonderful nights of sleep, so saying goodbye is hard. Ella Mae loves the swaddle and she will actually calm down just by being laid down on it knowing that we are going to swaddle her soon!
At nap time we are now swaddling her with one arm out and putting her down to sleep partially awake. She did great the first day, she cried for about 5 minutes and then fell to sleep. On her next nap i put her down wide awake and without any crying she fell to sleep. Both naps were relatively short so on her 3rd nap i fully swaddled her and she was OUT! Today has been a bit harder. She keeps falling to sleep holding my shirt so when i put her down she wakes up and will not fall back to sleep. We are trying to not respond to her crying right away unless it seems very distressed. It is hard to just let her fuss, but the time has come.
Teething is no fun at all! Not only does her mouth hurt, and the only relief that she accepts is a parents finger to chew on. She has so much drool that she is having tummy troubles and the crying makes the tummy troubles worse as crying causes gas pains. So now we have an in pain infant that is gassy and suffering from her acid reflux as well.
She has also decided that Mommy is her favorite and will let no other comfort her. This has been hard for Ryan because he used to be her comforter, and this stage is leaving him feeling helpless. For me it is hard because i liked having help when she was fussy. It was great to pass her off to Ryan and take a breather, but this too shall pass.
Other than these woes Ella Mae has become such a riot! She laughs, smiles, babbles and has a total sense of humor. She has realized that if she coughs that she gets a response so she fake coughs all of the time. It really is cute. She also likes tummy time now and can lift herself up quite far. She has also rolled over 3 times but i still say it is by accident so i don't count it. She can sit up if you put her in the corner of the couch and she prefers to sit on her own over laying on her back. She still cant suck her thumb but she likes to put her fingers in her mouth, sometime her whole fist.
Our friends are back from the USA and it is wonderful to have them back. The girls are fascinated with each other and soon they should be able to play together, Ella Mae is still a bit to small and not mobile. It will be fun to watch them grow up together.
